The global consumer industry experienced a 24% decline in the number of cybersecurity-related patent applications in Q3 2022 compared with the previous quarter. The total number of cybersecurity-related grants dropped by 17% in Q3 2022, according to GlobalData’s whitepaper on Cybersecurity in Consumer – Patenting Activity in Q3 2022.
Notably, the number of cybersecurity-related patent applications in the consumer industry was 250 in Q3 2022, versus 330 in the prior quarter.
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that GuangDong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications filed the most cybersecurity patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2022. The company filed 38 cybersecurity-related patents in the quarter, compared with 41 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Brother Industries with 15 cybersecurity patent filings, Toshiba (12 filings), and Vivo Communication Technology (9 filings) in Q3 2022.
